The next project was burying the pipe for the water system so that the sun wouldn’t rot it, but it was with some distress that they set to this task because they’d been enjoying the heated water. The pipe made its way down the hillside through a mixture of oak forest and dry open rocky slopes. By the late afternoon, the sun had heated the water in the black pipe and they’d been using it to shower.

When they turned it on, the static water in the pipe moved down through the showerhead. Blocked from the sun’s rays in the deep oak forest, however, the heated water in the pipe was not a uniform temperature. But the joy of a hot shower outweighed the discomfort from the sudden rush of chilled water that periodically poured over them.
